An Exciting Year of Firsts on the Farm

To say that 2020 was quite a year may be the understatement of the year! As we head into 2021, we can’t help but reflect back on 2020, a year of exciting “firsts” here on the farm:

  • The farm had its very first plant sale in the spring, which received great feedback from the community!

  • Black River Farms and Embassy Band graciously teamed up to host our first Pairing for a Cause wine and chocolate fundraising event. In case you weren’t there, it was a perfect evening! Mark your calendar now for our second annual Pairing on September 10, 2021.

  • Media firsts: Our first newsletter was sent out in March, and we also joined Instagram this year!

  • Fig Bethlehem chose The Monocacy Farm Project as its 2020 Fig Social Mission Partner, which was and is quite an honor! We immensely enjoyed working with them throughout the year and can't thank them enough for their faith in us and for helping to spread the word about MFP.

  • We hosted (virtually this year) our annual fundraising event, the fifth annual Monocacy Farm Food Festival. Our silent auction participants really impressed us with their generosity during this challenging year.

  • Together with St. Francis Center for Renewal, along with the School Sisters of St. Francis, we hosted a canned food drive for New Bethany Ministries to help with the increased food need due to the pandemic.

  • 2020 also introduced a new project manager to the farm, Eli Stogsdill, as well as assistant farmer Anton Shannon. Both have been such a blessing to the farm and do an amazing job keeping our fields and equipment looking incredible. They did a wonderful job growing the produce for our Pick-Your-Own program, local restaurants, and the soup kitchens, food banks and shelters that benefit from our Grow Healthy Initiative produce donations. Speaking of the PYO program, we were blown away with how many joined this year. The community support was just astounding!

Although it has been a challenging year (for us and many organizations, businesses, families, etc), we have a lot to be thankful for. Most of all … we’re thankful for you.

On behalf of our staff (Eli, Anton, Amy and Sister Bonnie), we would like to thank you for all of your help and support. For some, that support may have been a monetary gift, in-kind donation or participation in the farm’s Pick-Your-Own program. For others it may have been investing time and talent as a volunteer. Still others may have supported the MFP by attending fundraisers (virtual or onsite) or sharing our posts on social media to help spread the word out. You made this year possible and, although it sounds cliché, we seriously couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you!

We’re very much looking forward to the 2021 growing season and hope you’ll join us in making this next year an even bigger success! If you would like to make a year-end contribution, please click here.
