The Monocacy Farm Project offers educational workshops and hands-on field experience each summer to youth groups. The workshops introduce basic health and nutrition-related information and are designed to equip youth to make healthy food choices. Field experiences on the farm teach youth how to grow and harvest and prepare their own organic vegetables. Corresponding workshops and assembly presentations will be presented in area schools during the upcoming school year in conjunction with the Kellyn Foundation. Additionally, the program will be offered to students enrolled in Kolbe Academy which services youth in recovery.
Programs offered to adults include a workshop series on “Health, Wellness, and Spirituality” presented at Saint Francis Center for Renewal. Future workshops will include presentations on organic gardening, medicinal and native plants, permaculture design, orchard planning and maintenance, and ornamental horticulture. Off-site instruction and assistance to families wishing to create and maintain home gardens is made available through the “The Yard Farmer”.
